TWO men from Upper Rangemore in Bulawayo have appeared in court facing a charge of theft after unlawfully driving away in a company vehicle, which they later dumped.

Zibusiso Ndlovu (24) and Marvellous Gumede (27), both employed as security guards by Southland Construction, were arraigned before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira on Friday last week.

The two pleaded guilty to a theft charge and were remanded in custody to today for sentencing.

It is alleged that on August 12 this year, a company employees, Njabulo Moyo, parked a truck at the Khayalami construction site in Upper Rangemore.

Ndlovu and Gumede, who were on duty at the time, drove the vehicle away without permission.

The following morning, when Moyo reported for duty, he discovered that the vehicle was missing.

He also noticed that a three-horsepower water pump, 60 litres of diesel and six empty 25-litre containers were missing and that both guards were nowhere to be found.

Moyo reported the matter to Nkulumane Police Station.

Following investigations, detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad in Bulawayo located the truck on August 17 near Khami River in Umguza district.

Five days later, the detectives got a tip-off that led to the arrest of Gumede and Ndlovu at Gravesite Mine in Mbembesi.
