Maphosa told the court that Cosmas Chinyerere had stopped supporting her and the baby and was living with another woman.

A HARARE woman approached the civil courts last week claiming US$200 maintenance from her estranged husband who allegedly dumped her and their nine-months-old baby.

Blessing Maphosa told magistrate Ayanda Dlamini that her husband had abandoned her in Ruwa to live a lavish life in Mabelreign, Harare.

Maphosa told the court that Cosmas Chinyerere had stopped supporting her and the baby and was living with another woman.

“He is a civil servant and he had the tendency of not coming back home whenever he gets paid. For the past three months he has stopped coming back home and decided to live at our other matrimonial property in Mabelreign with his mistress,” she said.

Chinyerere denied the allegations telling the court that he could not afford the amount Maphosa was demanding and could only pay US$30. He also claimed that the couple was  still staying together.

“I will give her US$30 because maybe what she wants is pocket money. I give her US$100 monthly for our groceries and I only sleep over in Mabelreign on days that I finish work late,” he said.

Dlamini ordered Chinyerere to pay US$100 to Maphosa as maintenance.
