AT 23, Tawanda and Taurai Murere, better known as the Zaka Twins, are setting the local music scene ablaze with their infectious blend of dancehall and Afrobeat.
Born and raised in Zaka, the identical twins are proving that talent and determination can break any barrier, even without a musical background in the family.
What started as a childhood pastime has become a full-fledged career that’s turning heads in Zimbabwe’s music circles.
“We started singing when we were 18,” said Taurai with a grin.
“Back then, it was just for fun, but soon we realised music was more than a hobby, it was our calling.”
Since then, the energetic duo has been unstoppable. It has released seven singles to date and has teamed up with other rising stars like YsHKD and Lucky Boi, crafting catchy anthems that echo their youthful vibe and authenticity.

But like many upcoming artistes, the Zaka Twins encounter their share of hurdles, especially when it comes to marketing and funding their projects.
“We love making music, but the biggest challenge is money; recording, promoting and producing quality tracks takes a lot, and we don’t always have the resources,” he said.
Still, their optimism shines through. With their unique sound and relentless spirit, the Zaka Twins believe their big break is just around the corner.
“We’re hopeful that one day our music will go viral; we just want people to feel our vibe from Zaka to the world,” Tawanda said.
For now, the twins continue to fine-tune their craft and dream big, proving that even from the smallest beginnings, great beats can rise.
