New ZCTU president Chikosi calls for labour movement renewal

NEWLY-ELECTED president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Valentine Chikosi has called for the strengthening of the labour movement and the restoration of its position as a formidable voice representing organised labour.

In his acceptance speech following his election at the weekend, Chikosi said the labour movement needed to rebuild its structures, strengthen unity and reposition itself to effectively defend workers’ rights and interests amid growing calls for decent work and improved conditions of service.

Chikosi, who will serve a five-year term, took over from Florence Taruvinga following elections held on Saturday.
