Call for government to adopt UN-prescribed media safety plan

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe has renewed its call for the government to adopt and implement the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists. The call came as UNESCO data show a spike in cases of journalists killed or maimed while on duty, with the perpetrators going scot-free.

In a statement marking the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, MISA-Zimbabwe said the safety and security of journalists is critical to freedom of expression and access to information.
