Tenax Football Club started life without head coach Shadreck Maguraswe with a valuable point away at Highlanders as they forced a goalless draw in this Castle Larger Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Tenax put on a solid performance and frustrated the hosts for most of the match and could have snatched all three points with a bit of luck as they had two good chances in the first half.

On the eighth minute Theophilus Musiteyi collected a poor clearance by Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa and tried to lob the ball over the home team goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, who did well to fingertip the ball for a corner kick.

Bosso responded in the 15th minute with a Devine Mhindirira shot that was well collected by Tenax goalkeeper Philip Makami.

With Highlanders playing most of its players in unfamiliar positions, there was a mix-up in the box and Musiteyi failed to punish Bosso, shooting wide when in good space after 27 minutes.

Adrian Silla, who continue to be used as a leftback, saw his fine curling freekick going over the bar with a minute to halftime.

Highlanders started the second half strongly in terms of passing but failed to get clear-cut chances with the best opportunity falling on substitute Rahman Kutsanzira, who received a cut back from Washington Navaya, but blasted his effort over the bar.

Panashe Mutasa could have given Tenax all three points in the 75th minute, but his sharp shot was collected by Sibanda.

Highlanders coach  Baltemar Brito was an unhappy man.

“We dropped two points and it shows that the Zimbabwe league is competitive. Our first half was not good, we controlled the second half but could not get the goals, the main thing in football is to get goals,” he said after the match.

Tenax coach Isaac Nengomasha was excited after the match.

“It was a good game for us, we defended well and wanted to frustrate them and we achieved that. There are lots of positives from this match as we avoided conceding early and it worked well for us as we look into the rest of the season,” he said.

The two teams also played to goalless draw in their first meeting in Mutare.
