By Courage Nyaya AS the final stretch of the Premier Soccer League season approaches, the relegation battle is shaping up to be a fascinating one, with no fewer than seven clubs in an engrossing battle to avoid the drop.

The sink-or-swim struggle in the domestic topflight is set to take a back seat this weekend as the preliminary rounds of Chibuku Super Cup take centre stage.

ZPC Kariba tackle Bulawayo City, while Premier League minnows Cranborne Bullets and WhaWha face-off later on Saturday.

The postponement of the league fixtures has attracted mixed feelings from various teams with some embracing the developments to enable them to polish up on grey areas while for some, it is seen as impacting on consistency and momentum.

Little separates teams that are at the basement of the log table, with the bottom four separated by just three points.

Bottom-placed WhaWha, who have accumulated a paltry 19 points, while Tenax (21), Bulawayo City (21) and Harare City (22) points occupy the other relegation places 11 games left in the campaign.

Limping Harare giants Caps United is currently on 12th position above ZPC Kariba on 23 points and Cranborne Bullets (25) who occupy 14th and 13th positions, respectively.

The fight by the mid-table teams to avoid dropping to the bottom half is just as intriguing.

Yadah (28), Bulawayo Chiefs (29), Ngezi Platinum (33) and Triangle (34) points, are currently ranked 11th, 10th, ninth and eight positions, respectively, and any stumble could see any of them being drawn into the relegation dogfight.
