BY FORTUNE MBELE HIGHLANDERS coach Baltermar Brito admits that their last two games have not been up to scratch and the team needs to improve their conversion rate.
After firing blanks in the draw against struggling Tenax in front of their home crowd at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, Brito observed that his team need a big improvement.
Their previous game was against city neighbours Bulawayo City whom they beat 1-0 with the solitary goal from Godfrey Makaruse.
“We dropped two points, but of course this means that the Zimbabwean league is competitive. If you look at the log standings every team is fighting to get those points. There are no easy games and today (Sunday) is proof that no game is easy in Zimbabwe. We are not consistent in terms of scoring. The main thing in football is about scoring goals. We need to improve in building up to score goals,” Brito said.
Since he came into they country, Brito has presided over six games in where Highlanders have scored nine goals amassing 11 points which have lifted them from the middle of the log-table to position six.
Lyonth Chikuhwa has banged in three goals since the Portuguese national took charge, notching a brace in the 3-2 win over Black Rhinos at home with Stanley Ngala weighing in with the other goals.
The Bulawayo giants played away to Baobab Stadium where they played to a 1-1 draw with Ngezi Platinum Stars in a game in which Godfrey Makaruse equalised for Highlanders after the home side had taken the lead.
Makaruse and Ngala were on target again in the 3-0 mauling of the Manica Diamonds at BF with the other goal coming from central defender Peter Muduhwa.
