Slight drop in fuel prices

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) said a litre of diesel now costs US$1,70 from US$1,80 — a 2,2% decrease.

BY PRIVELEDGE GUMBODETE FUEL prices were reduced by a slight margin yesterday, while the ethanol blending ratio was raised to E20.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) said a litre of diesel now costs US$1,70 from US$1,80 — a 2,2% decrease.

Petrol was reduced by 5,3% from US$1,70 to US$1,61.

Petrol (blend — E15) now costs $667,43, down from $675,35 per litre.

The price of diesel, however, went up in Zimbabwe dollar terms. A litre of diesel now costs $727,69 from $714,45 per litre.

“The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio remains at E15. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations,” the statement read.

“Stakeholders are advised that the petroleum prices released by Zera can be verified on the official Zera website, Facebook or Twitter handle.”

Retail petrol and diesel prices have been increasing to record highs in many countries across the world following the Ukraine-Russia war, although in Zimbabwe the price topped regional rates long before the that war.
