BY STEPHEN CHADENGA MIDLANDS State University (MSU) lecturer Gift Manyatera has won a law academic leadership award for his contribution to the country’s legal fraternity.

Manyatera, who is MSU’s faculty of law executive dean, scooped the Outstanding Law Academic Leader Award at an awards ceremony hosted by the Zimbabwe CEO’s Network in Harare last Friday.

In a statement, MSU said: “Manyatera received the prestigious award for imparting knowledge and skills towards the churning out of some of the best legal practitioners in Zimbabwe and beyond. During the same event, the Midlands State University’s faculty of law scooped the Outstanding Law School Award.”

In the past years, law students from the higher learning institution have won regional and international moot competitions, beating students from prominent law schools in the world.

Manyatera said the victory was testament to the quality of legal education at the institution, which he said met national, regional and international standards.

Seven years ago, MSU was mandated to mentor law schools in the region after getting a grant from the Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa.
