BY REX MPHISA FIVE Indian nationals, including a baby, kidnapped on their way to Beitbridge from Bulawayo, have reportedly arrived at their destination in South Africa, sources said yesterday.
But national police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said he was yet to get updates from Beitbridge.
“Let me talk to you tomorrow (today). As of now, I do not have any updates,” Nyathi said in a brief interview.
A family member who declined to be named said the kidnapped Indians had been released, but could not disclose the circumstances.
“They have arrived at their intended destination I am unable to disclose, but they are safe,” said the relative.
The five arrived at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport last week and with their escort, proceeded to Bulawayo by bus to meet another Indian national, only identified as Mohammad, who facilitated their journey to Beitbridge in a hired car.
Along the way, just 20km outside Beitbridge, a Toyota Wish car and a Toyota minibus blocked their way and demanded all the passengers be taken to an unknown destination.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of US$2 000 for each person.

It is not clear whether the ransom was paid, but police have been following on leads and are expected to make arrests soon.
