BY CHIEDZA MAZHANGARA FILMMAKER and actor David Kanduna has credited some prominent local film instructors at the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy for shaping him into the artiste he has become.

A recent graduate from the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy, Kanduna said working with film instructors such as Zaza Muchemwa, Llyod Nyikadzino and Teddy Mangawa was priceless.

“These three instructors are dedicated professionals who are not only celebrated in Zimbabwe, but worldwide,” he said, further noting that they enhanced his expertise and confidence in the filming industry.

“Through the skills I obtained, from the trio, among other veterans in the industry, I have managed to create my own solo theatre play titled The Father which is being received well by the public.”

The Father is about a man, Tom Chipanga, who wants to reconnect with his long-lost son he abandoned when he was still a fetus.

As time passed, Chipanga missed some opportunities and his heart longs to at least see or talk to the son before he died.

“The theatre play The Father mainly centres on the themes of forgiveness, rape, religion, essence of having a family, superstition and redemption, which are some of the topical issues happening in society,” he said

Away from the stage, on the screen, as an actor, Kanduna has featured on a local series, The World We Live In, which is a comedy centred on a group of friends and their daily lives.

To publicise himself, Kanduna also does some video skits which focus on trending societal issues.
