Chipunza, a former Dynamos and Chicken Inn player, is also angling to join the Harare football giants.

BY TAWANDA TAFIRENYIKA HARARE football giants Caps United are battling to tie down midfielder Tafadzwa Kutinyu and Tichaona Chipunza before the close of the transfer window at the weekend.

Kutinyu, who has played for Guinea football side Horoya FC and Azam in Tanzania among some of his career stations, is currently without a club. He has been training with Caps United since last week and it is understood the two parties have opened negotiations for a possible contract.

Chipunza, a former Dynamos and Chicken Inn player, is also angling to join the Harare football giants.

Caps United chief executive Charlie Jones said they were looking to sign two midfielders before the end of this week. Although the Caps United boss could not be drawn into revealing the identity of the players, sources said Kutinyu and Chipunza were the targets.

“Negotiations between the parties concerned have been ongoing and I am sure deals will be concluded before the weekend,” the sources said.

Already Caps United, have signed former Harare City forward Emmanuel Mandiranga, Powel Govere who was on the books of Chicken Inn and also welcomed back midfielder Blessing Sarupinda from  Sekhukhune United in South Africa. He had a frustrating spell at the club where he struggled to hold down a first team shirt which forced him to return home.

Kutinyu and Chipunza would give coach Lloyd Chitembwe an array of options in the area of the pitch after Caps lost star midfielder Tatenda Tavengwa, who joined the Motsepe Foundation-owned championship side, Venda Football Academy FC.

The midfielder has been a key player at the Green Machine since joining in February this year from Harare City.

While he impressed for Caps United, he couldn’t play a number of games as he was plagued by injuries which often side-lined him in important matches.

However, the highly-rated midfielder, once a target of Dynamos, still attracted interest from South Africa. Tavengwa, who graduated from the Under-23s, has also been a member of the Warriors in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations and African Nations Championship squads.

The midfielder is said to have replaced Gerald Takwara, who was at the South African club.
