BY KENNETH NYANGANI AN Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe man has been arrested for purportedly undermining President Emmerson Mnangagwa after he said he was a weakling lacking stamina to address the country’s economic challenges.

Lovemore Muchenje from Mutawatawa was arrested in Mutawatawa on Monday facing insult charges.

His lawyer Tinashe Chinopfukutwa from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said Muchenje was arrested for posting a picture depicting Mnangagwa wearing a dress with a caption “PaEconomy muri mainini”.

“He was detained in Murehwa (police station) for the entire night. The following day, we travelled to Mutawatawa under the police custody, but he did not appear in court because such matters are sanctioned by the Prosecutor-General,” Chinopfukutwa said.

Chinopfukutwa is challenging prosecution of his client without a certificate of authority to prosecute issued by the Prosecutor-General in terms of the law. A number of people in Zimbabwe have been arrested for allegedly mocking Mnangagwa.
