Petros optimistic of better fortunes

The prison wardens have endured a tough journey since returning to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with most of their efforts going in vain having picked a paltry 12 points during the first half of the season.

BY TERRY MADYAUTA WHAWHA coach Luke Petros has admitted that relegation is inevitable, but reckons that the next two matches against Manica Diamonds and Tenax could be decisive in easing his fears.

In fact, the Gweru-based side has been stuck in the murky waters of relegation since the start of the season while also emerging as the weakling in this competition.

However, after knocking down the highly-rated Benjani Mwaruwari-led Ngezi Platinum prior to the mid-season break, the prison wardens are hopeful for a marked improvement when they return from the two-week break on Sunday.

The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker reckons that their clash against Manica Diamonds on Sunday will set the tone for the second half.

Nevertheless, he is not reading much into the fact that they were pummeled 4-0 in the reverse fixture played at Sakubva Stadium.

“The second half is always the toughest in all leagues because it is very decisive and hectic. For me as a coach, it is crucial and I am pinning my hopes on the team to have improved,” Petros said.

“I want to believe we got enough time to adapt as a team. All players we added along the way have gelled in. We can only demand positive results in this half.”

What gives him confidence at this point is the fact that their next matches against Manica Diamonds and Tenax will be at home, Ascot Stadium.
