Dalivaldo eyes Zikomo award

HIP-HOP musician Darlington “Dalivaldo” Ntokozo Moyo is itching to grab the Zikomo Africa Awards after being nominated into two categories for best song and best up-and-coming southern African artiste.

Zambia’s Zikomo Africa Awards are meant to honour  entrepreneurs, fashion designers, dancers and actors on the continent.

In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, the promising musician said being nominated was a sign that he was really working hard.

The musician, who is also a fashion designer, expressed optimism that he would grab awards at the event saying: “Yes I think I can pick up an award with the support of my family, friends and fellow Zimbabweans.”

His nomination was based on songs Mamiyo and My love will never die.

The 22-year-old budding artiste added that he was planning to drop an extended play called Mjolo.

Apart from being a musician and fashion designer, Dalivaldo is also the Zikomo Africa Awards brand ambassador, a position which he has held since January this year.

Other Zimbabwean artists who have been nominated for the awards include Jedza the notorious (best comedian of east/southern Africa), Cleopatra Mashingaidze (best actress of the year), Idah Tsaura (best make-up artist).

Commenting on the music industry the young artiste, who has 15 single tracks, said rising artistes must be given the opportunities to share the stage with renowned international artistes.

He added: “We need to push and stick to our own music genre like what amapiano (South Africa) and Afro beats (Nigeria and Ghana etc) are doing.

“As Zimbabwean musicians, let’s copy our elders who maintained the likes of sungura, jiti, mbira genres. They managed to be consistent. Let’s not copy other musicians. Let’s stick to our own brand and I believe that one day we are going to make it into the world’s music history books.”
