BY STAFF REPORTER THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has given its debtors a seven-day ultimatum to clear their bills or face disconnection.
In a notice, the ZETDC said it had intensified credit control measures to recover over $5 billion from debtors to enhance service delivery.
“Following the feedback and plea from our customers nationwide, the utility is pleased to advise that it is giving a seven-day moratorium to defaulting customers. The moratorium is with immediate effect,” ZETDC said.
“Customers are encouraged to take advantage of this window to visit their nearest customer service centre to reconcile, pay their bills and or clear outstanding balances. Please note that customers are also advised to take this as a final notice.”
Zimbabweans are grappling with electricity outages caused by shortage of foreign currency to pay for imports and reduced local generation due to aging equipment and vandalism of infrastructure.
ZETDC is reportedly losing over US$5 million to vandalism of its infrastructure annually.
