“The film is a full story of Elokitshini lifestyle told in one package in a bid to raise awareness on societal ills such as gender-based violence, child abuse, drugs, corruption and possible means to eradicate such ills in society through entertainment,” he said.

BY IRENE MOYO UMQALIWENDABA studios on Wednesday premiered the first episode of their new film that centres on social ills titled The Phumula Saga Es’phakeni, at Ster Kinekor Bulawayo.

One of the producers Doubt Phiri said the film had 13 episodes.

“The film is a full story of Elokitshini lifestyle told in one package in a bid to raise awareness on societal ills such as gender-based violence, child abuse, drugs, corruption and possible means to eradicate such ills in society through entertainment,” he said.

Phiri said from the pre- to post-production stages the journey had not been that easy.

“We started from a zero budget. The cast and crew had to contribute financially to make this project a success. The idea of this film came to mind in 2012 and from late 2019 to 2020 that is when we started production,” he said.

“Along the way, COVID-19 became a major setback which delayed the production of the project. We are hoping that the film is going to open new doors for sponsorship from individuals, stakeholders and many more organisations that might be willing to support us by any means.”

The film’s cast features Mandlenkosi Simangi, Progress Keswa, West Moyo, Mduduzi Mafu, Andile Maphosa, Lisanda Ncube, Innocent Nyoni, Desire Sibanda, Ronnie Khumalo and Shepherd Khumalo.

Judging from the audience’s reactions and feedback, the film’s two lead actors Simango and Keswa have captured the hearts of many viewers with their incredible acting skills.
