Marondera serial rapist, killer cases rise to 14

The suspect is expected to appear in court today to answer nine charges of rape and murder of women committed in Marondera only.

By JAIROS SAUNYAMA POLICE in Marondera have approached the Marondera Magistrates court seeking further detention against suspected serial rapist and killer Bright Zhantali (30) as they seek to clear more cases linked to him in the province.

This was after it emerged in court that he was now linked to 14 cases.

The suspect is expected to appear in court today to answer nine charges of rape and murder of women committed in Marondera only.

He has led police to indications in Mutare and Rusape where he committed the heinous crimes.

Apart from Marondera and Wedza, Zhantali also led police to Macheke, Masvingo where the body of a woman was discovered in a maize field in a decomposing state.

He confessed that he raped and murdered the victim.

At one point, Zhantali killed a sex worker before setting her house ablaze.

NewsDay is reliably informed that Zhantali could have been behind rape cases in Marondera in which the victims would manage to escape before being murdered.
