MANICA Diamonds players Pasca Manhanga and Nyasha Chintuli punished their former paymasters Triangle with two second half goals that saw their side edging the latter 2-1 in a Castle Lager Premier League match played at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare yesterday.

The Gem Boys as they are affectionately known by their fans came from a goal down to beat the stubborn visitors Triangle.

Triangle opened the floodgates on the 25th minute through Simbarashe Chivenge.

Chintuli scored on the 55th minute before Manhanga completed the scoresheet on the 60th minute.

Manica Diamonds gaffer Johannes Nhumwa was ecstatic over win.

“I am happy with the win especially when we are  coming from a silly draw against Yadah FC last week. We conceded in the early stages of the first half and we managed to recover in the second half,” he said

“We will continue to push in our next matches, I realised that we need to safeguard against complacency in our next matches,” he said.

His counterpart Jairos Tapera was impressed with his young side’s impressive show.

“The match was balanced, but we controlled the game more in the first half and in the second half. Manica Diamonds had no shot on target but they punished us from those two chances,” he added

Triangle started the match on a good note and veteran striker Donald Ngoma missed a sitter on the 17th minute with Manica Diamonds goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo at sixes and sevens.

Eight minutes later Chivenge placed home to beat Muchambo.

Manica Diamonds were a more enterprising side in the second half Chintuli bundled home a 55th goal mouth to cancel the visitors league.

Manhanga’s goal was even approved by Triangle fans five minutes later.

Manhanga went to salute Triangle fans after scoring. Manhanga made his name at Triangle were he played for many years.

He also earned Warriors call-ups when he was playing for the Sugar Sugar Boys.
