Gokwe teen up for murder

It is alleged that on February 27, Given Mamupengesi was drinking beer at Volley Night Club at Gokwe Centre when one Elvis Shoko, who is still at large, demanded an empty beer bottle from him.

BY OBERT SIAMILANDU AN 18-year-old teenager in Mukwenya village under Chief Nemangwe, Gokwe South was yesterday arraigned before the courts on allegations of murdering a fellow villager following an altercation over an empty beer bottle.

The teenager, Nyasha Pasina, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Gokwe magistrate Musaiwona Shortgame on charges of murder.

It is alleged that on February 27, Given Mamupengesi was drinking beer at Volley Night Club at Gokwe Centre when one Elvis Shoko, who is still at large, demanded an empty beer bottle from him.

Mamupengesi refused to give him the bottle.

Shoko then called Courage Nemangwe and Effort Natali, who are also still at large, and Pasina who beat up Mamupengesi.

The quartet allegedly kicked and stabbed Mamupengesi with various objects until he became unconscious and eventually died.

Pasina was arrested, while the police are still hunting for the other four suspects.

Pasina was remanded in custody to March 17 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Meanwhile, police in Gokwe are investigating a murder case where a man allegedly killed his wife and later committed suicide by taking a pesticide.

Midlands province police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident yesterday.

“The bodies of the wife Ellen Gohwo and that of her husband Daniel Makuseni who committed suicide after killing her were discovered in a nearby bush.”
