BY NIZBERT MOYO A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Inyazani village 3 in Fort Rixon, Matabeleland South province has been charged with assaulting and raping a juvenile.
Cosmas Thabangu (21) was on Monday remanded in custody to April 12 when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa.
It is alleged that sometime in February around 6pm, Tshabangu met the girl (name withheld) at her homestead and demanded to be intimate with her.
She refused and Tshabangu turned violent, threatening to axe her before frogmarching the juvenile to his homestead where he raped her.
The girl did not immediately report the matter to police.
On March 20 around 1pm, Tshabangu met the girl at Inyazani River and assaulted her with a log after she refused to be intimate with her again.
The girl managed to escape and sought refuge at a neighbour’s homestead before reporting the matter to police, leading to Tshabangu’s arrest.
