FORMER Harare mayor, Herbert Gomba has reportedly gone missing after unknown men stormed his home in Glen Norah C in the capital on Saturday afternoon and allegedly abducted him.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said there was still no information on the whereabouts of Gomba, 24 hours after his disappearance.
“Lawyers in the morning were advised by the Law and Order Section that he is not at Harare Central Police where it was alleged that he had been arrested, and detained, accused of torching a car owned by Gilbert Mbwende, an MDC-T by-election candidate for Highfield East,” Mahere said.
“The lawyers have since checked for him at Milton Park, Hillside, Rhodesville, Highfield, Mbare and Southerton and found no trace of him.”
Police national spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “Herbert Gomba has not been arrested.”
Gomba is the CCC candidate for ward 27 in Harare.
He was recalled as councillor by the MDC Alliance last year and was due to attend a rally yesterday in Glen Norah alongside the CCC National Assembly candidates Wellington Chikombo and Chihoma Runyowa.
