BY NKOSENTSHA KHUMALO BULAWAYO comedian Mdawini “Uncle Zex” Sibanda, has scoffed at critics who described him as a novice who needed more training in public comedy performance after a dull debut show at Bulawayo Theatre recently.

Uncle Zex, who became popular with his social media skits, had decided to venture into stage performance alongside fellow comedians Dalubuhle “Da lu da Comedian” Mdlongwa and Frank Chirisa, but he learnt the hard way as he performed below par.

Reacting to the criticism, Uncle Zex said the claim that he was still a novice was derogatory and uncalled for as he did not need training to crack jokes.

“I shake off that underserved allegation without sounding, Uncle Zex is no novice,” he said.

“Comedy to me is my life, not business. That I did not tell any new jokes during my recent comedy show does not mean I have gone empty, I never will.”

Uncle Zex said if anyone expected anything different during the show, they were being unfair to themselves.

“I knew most of the people came not only for laughs, but to have a glimpse of the man of the moment who is on everyone’s social media platform and the first show, as it was, I gave the viral jokes that they know and love,” he said.

“I do not need any training as I perform my skits everyday, everywhere, which led to my popularity. If one were to check, most of my skits are done and recorded live in action, on buses, kombis and roads.”

He said wherever he met people, he performed and left them laughing.
