Trio fined for operating unregistered schools

The offence came to light when the Primary and Secondary Education ministry launched an operation targeting unlicensed schools recently.

BY TREVOR MUTSVAIRO THREE Harare residents were yesterday fined $10 000 each for operating  unregistered schools.

Nyasha Kainga (28), Abel  Makanhiwa (39) and Irene Muzaka  (51) appeared before magistrate Tafadzwa Miti who heard that they operated unlicensed schools in different parts of Harare.

The offence came to light when the Primary and Secondary Education ministry launched an operation targeting unlicensed schools recently.

A number of unregistered schools were closed under the operation.

Polite Chikiwa represented the State.

In an unrelated incident, three other Harare residents appeared in court facing charges of stealing plumbing material and US$70 000 cash belonging to their employer Robert Pasipachaona.

Pasipachaona is the director of Hardspan Enterprises.

Prince Mushongorokwa (25), Tinashe Munengu (29) and Josephat Tamburai (42) were remanded in custody to today for bail application.

It is alleged that sometime between August 2021 and February 12 this year, the complainant secured his storeroom by locking all doors.

The accused broke in and stole plumbing material.
