BY JULIA NDLELA OLD Mutual Zimbabwe raised $4 million during a Christmas fundraising campaign and donated the proceeds to charity organisations in Harare.
The company ran a Christmas promotion asking for donations from its clients and stakeholders and pledged to match the amounts raised to assist five charity organisations.
The beneficiaries included Hupenyu Hutsva Children’s Home, Society for the Destitute and Aged (Soda), Dhaniko Project, Jairos Jiri Association and Larche Zimbabwe Disabled Children’s Home.
Old Mutual chief executive Sam Matsekete said: “We want to thank everyone who heeded to our call to bring a smile to the less fortunate by donating.”
“Old Mutual Zimbabwe is committed to supporting the development and growth of the Zimbabwean economy through initiatives that foster the development in communities where our staff and customers live and work,” he added.
Through the generous donations from the public, Old Mutual raised $1 034 000 and they matched the amount with $3 000 000 bringing the total to $4 000 000.
Soda was given $1 million and the other four charity organisations got $750 000 each.
