Johnsen said the event went well with most swimmers putting the best of their performance.

BY MAGRETH RUZVIDZO The Harare Amateur Swimming (HAS) board member Nikki Johnsen has said their weekend junior gala helped them in team selection for future competitions.

HAS hosted its junior championships over the weekend with six clubs Highlands, Spartans, Otters, Sharks, Pirates and Dorados represnted.

Johnsen said the event went well with most swimmers putting the best of their performance.

“The gala was a fantastic event and we had some amazing swims. Two swimmers managed to get good in all races and these are Unathi Chibanda Under-10 girls and Alexis Johnsen Under-12 girls,” Johnsen said.

“We will now select the team which will represent Harare for nationals in Bulawayo from March 12-13.”

Johnsen believes that the performance of many swimmers shows positive signs considering that there was no activity for the past two years.

“The positives we managed to pick for this event are that the children were able to compete and be normal especially having gone through the two hard years with COVID-19,” she said.

The defending champions for the overall cup, Highlanders, which fielded 60 swimmers retained the title whilst the Dorados won the aggregate cup.
