THE Midlands capital will be the centre of attraction this afternoon with tough Central Region derbies in the offing as the Moses Chunga-coached Chapungu clash with league pacesetters Sheasham at the Gweru Sports Club.

In another derby, ambitious TelOne will lock horns with Midlands State University (MSU) at Ascot Stadium.

For Chapungu, this is an opportunity to prove a point that they are not a spent-force when they face Sheasham.

The airmen had a rather slow start, but have realigned their campaign and have shown that they are still a formidable force in the region.

Last weekend, they beat Zvishavane side Loss Control 1-0 before sharing spoils with MSU in a mid-week fixture and Chunga will hope his youthful side can hand Sheasham their first defeat of the season.

At this point, Chapungu are seventh on the standings, with seven points separating them from their opponents this afternoon.

Sheasham are riding high in terms of confidence, especially that they remain unbeaten after six rounds of fixtures.

Their last assignment ended in a 2-1 win over FC Platinum Under-19 as they cemented their lead at the top of the standings, with three points ahead of the nearest rivals, Kwekwe United.

However, this one against Chapungu comes as a test of character for John Nyikadzino and his charges in their bid to maintain their fine run until the season ends.

At Ascot, Tendai Chikuni and his WiFi Boys will hope to make light work of MSU students who have been one of the poor performing teams this season.

TelOne picked crucial maximum points last time out after edging Tongogara 2-1 in their own backyard.

They are third on the log table with 11 points and this is an opportunity for them to cover the gap should Sheasham lose.

In truth, the Wifi Boys enter this one as favourites looking at their recent performances, nevertheless, MSU will look to make a major upset.

The students collected their first set of maximum points last weekend when they edged Filabusi United 1-0.

In the other fixtures slated for this afternoon, Vumbachikwe host ZPC Munyati at Long John Stadium in Gwanda.

Filabusi United and Loss Control will square off in Filabusi, while FC Platinum U-19 host Bishopstone FC at Mandava Stadium.

Tomorrow, Paramount FC will play hosts to inform Kwekwe United at Gokwe Centre Stadium, while Dulibadzimu entertain Tongogara at Ronnie Mabhidhi Stadium.
