D-Day for suspended top cop Makodza

Local News
Makodza presented Chapfudza to the police committee as a private investor to run the police farm in Marondera without disclosing their relationship to his superiors.

BY DESMOND CHINGARANDE HARARE regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa will today deliver ruling in a case where suspended Police Commissioner Erasmus Makodza is facing a charge of criminal abuse of office.

According to the State, Makodza allegedly influenced the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to award a contract to Maonei Chapfudza to run a buisiness project on a police farm in Mashonaland East province.

Makodza presented Chapfudza to the police committee as a private investor to run the police farm in Marondera without disclosing their relationship to his superiors.

The two have a child together, a fact that was not disputed in court.

The State alleges that the incident happened sometime in 2019 when Makodza was Officer Commanding Mashonaland East province.

It is alleged that he ordered his subordinate Stephen Zengeya, who was Assistant Commissioner responsible for administration in the province at the time, to allow Chapfudza to run the farm as a private business under Jerel Investments.

Makodza is also accused of not disclosing that he was once a co-director of Jerel Investments.
