BY Sports Reporter CAPS United have paid tribute to former star Charles Yohane who died in South Africa at the weekend following an attack by robbers.
Yohane’s body was found at a hospital on Tuesday after he was reported missing on Saturday.
In a statement, Caps expressed sorrow at the passing on of the former national team player.
“The Caps United family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the former Green Machine and Warriors star, Charles Yohane. Charles was part of the 1996 traiblazing and league championship-winning team. He played alongside current coach Lloyd Chitembwe who has expressed shock on the loss of his former teammate. Caps United call upon teams in all divisions to join them in observing a minute of silence prior to this weekend’s Premier Soccer League matches. Charles’ contribution to the Green Machine and to local football will forever be cherished,” the statement read.
The Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association (ZNSSA) expressed shock at the news of Yohane’s death.
“We have learnt with great shock and sadness of the death of former Bidvest Wits captain and Warriors legend Charles Yohane. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, relatives and the entire football fraternity. May we all find comfort and relief in the Lord during this difficult time. We have, indeed, lost a true football legend who shone for both club and country and was famed for his cultured left foot. As fans, we will give our departed legend a befitting send-off. May his departed dear soul rest in eternal peace,” ZNSSA organising secretary Chris Musekiwa said.
The process of repatriating his body for burial in Zimbabwe have since commenced in South Africa with former footballers leading the way.
Details of his murder emerged on Wednesday.

One of the suspects in the robbery and murder was arrested in Soweto after he was found driving the deceased’s car.
Yohane’s body was found by his family and friends in South Africa on Tuesday with gunshot wounds on the head.
According to family members, the ex-Wits player had gone to a match and met the robbers in Soweto on his way home.
CCTV footage of the former star’s kidnapping at a traffic light emerged where four men jumped into his BMW vehicle and forced him to drive off.
The gang had made a failed attempt to hijack another car before it pounced on Yohane.
