E-commerce is an industry that holds a lot of potential especially for a country like Zimbabwe where the competition isn’t that much. Just think about it, the world’s second-richest man, Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon also belongs to e-commerce. To guide people with how they can start their e-commerce business, we will be having a looking at important things that you should consider while starting an e-commerce store in Zimbabwe:

1. Online Presence Of Your Store

The first thing that you have to consider is the visibility of your brand or your store. If a user has to think about what your store name is or if the user is not familiar with your store then not many people would take to actually researching your store because people are busy nowadays and they don’t have the time to do these little things.

So as an e-commerce store owner, it is your duty to make sure that you are visible everywhere online and your presence is there on every social platform, be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Omegle.

Along with this, you will have to make sure that your store is also visible in Google’s search rankings and do search engine optimization for your store’s website. In order to be discoverable by a bulk of people, you will have to play by Google’s rule. So, the first thing that you need to consider is the online presence and visibility of your e-commerce store.

2. Simple And Clean Design With Easy Navigation

Once you have got your online presence and visibility sorted out, you need to make your website clean, simple, and concise. As soon as people reach or visit your website, the content on the website should be clear and they can easily find the thing, product, or category that they are looking for.

If the things on your store’s website aren’t clear and simple then the users will think that they have come to the wrong website. Make sure that the navigation and design of the website are simple for users so they don’t face any kind of problem. In addition to branding and navigation, make sure that the images of the products that you are listing on your store are of high quality and clear with a description that perfectly describes the product.

Customers love a good-looking and simple website and it is one of the reasons why a website like OmeTv is so popular, because of its simple and clean design with easy navigation.

3. Multiple Payment Gateways

Make sure that you have got multiple payment gateways available and the whole process of selecting the product to actually paying for it is not a long and tedious process. If a customer visits your store and wants to buy a product but he has to fill out multiple pages and forms just to authorize the payment then it is a very long hustle for the customers just so that they can buy something that they want.

For this purpose, it is recommended that you sort out these payment gateway problems beforehand and make everything as simple and concise as possible so the customers don’t have a hard time with anything. Plus, having multiple payment options is also a good thing, especially the Cash-on-Delivery option.

4. Make It Irresistible For The Customers Buy Again From Your Store

Once a customer has made a purchase from your store, you should tempt them to buy more from your store. You should try to make it irresistible for them to buy again by offering them discounts on future purchases or any coupons that they can use within a specific time period.

You can also try to make their delivery process quick and deliver the goods earlier than normal or open a membership subscription such as Amazon where you would be offering them special perks and exclusive deals.

5. Gradually Upscale Your Store

The last thing that you need to consider is that if you can’t afford to scale too then don’t even try. Instead, offer good quality products and services for what you have to offer at the moment and then grow gradually. This might mean that you will have to manage your inventory and products & don’t overstock but also don’t understock so that people will be having problems.

Lastly, make sure that you are always keeping your customers in mind and planning everything accordingly. In Zimbabwe, most people don’t make online purchases because there are different hurdles involved and people start to think too much before even ordering the product such as when will it arrive, will there be any extra fee, how will the quality of the product be? These are the little things that you need to sort out so that customers don’t have to think about these things.
