THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has suspended Morris Mpofu from assuming duty as the revenue collector’s acting Commissioner-General, three days after he was appointed to the post.
In 2019, he was fired from the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company on allegations of criminal abuse of office after he recommended the sale of diamonds to a blacklisted buyer.
The State later withdrew the charges against him.
In a notice yesterday, Zimra board vice-chairperson Josephine Matambo announced the suspension of assumption of duty by Mpofu.
“The Zimra board wishes to inform members of staff that the assumption of duty of Doctor Morris Mpofu as acting Commissioner-General of the authority has been suspended,” Matambo’s statement read.
“Accordingly, Rameck Masaire will continue to serve as the acting Commissioner-General of the authority.”
Masaire had tendered his retirement notice last year, and it was meant to be effective from February 1 this year.
