A 48-YEAR-OLD Kuwadzana man yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda to answer to a charge of raping an 11-year-old girl.

A 48-YEAR-OLD Kuwadzana man yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda to answer to a charge of raping an 11-year-old girl.

The accused was remanded in custody to February 2 for trial after the State opposed bail.

The court was told that the complainant was a niece to the accused person.

Allegations were that on October 24, 2021 at around 4pm, the minor was at home with the accused person playing outside when he ordered her to fetch drinking water for him.

The minor obliged and as she handed him the water. He then sexually abused her.

During the rape, the minor tried to scream, but he threatened her with a knife.

On January 17, the victim narrated the ordeal to her grandmother who had visited them.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The victim was referred to hospital for medical examination.
