Tragedy as ChiTown high school student drowns

Local News
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday said he was waiting for a full report from Chitungwiza Police.

BY TAFADZWA KACHIKO A SEKE 2 High School student drowned on Tuesday afternoon while swimming in Henry Hala Dam near Mayambara in Chitungwiza.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday said he was waiting for a full report from Chitungwiza Police.

However, the boy’s uncle (name withheld) confirmed the incident yesterday.

“We are in pain. The family has been robbed of a very intelligent and humble boy. He was naughty. I have paid school fees for him since the passing on of his father in 2016 when he was in Grade 6,” the uncle said.

“I was called by the Seke 2 High headmaster, who broke the sad news to me. This was after one of the children had gone to Chitungwiza Police Station to report the matter. The police sub aqua team then retrieved his body.”

The pupil is alleged to have gone to the dam in the company of his friends — four girls and three other boys.

The deceased’s body was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital for post-mortem.
