BY DARLINGTON MWASHITA THE Zimbabwe Academic and Non-fiction Authors Association Bulawayo chapter will launch an anthology tilted Amazilo Esintu on Friday.

The book, published by the association, is a collection of popular taboos in the Matabeleland region.

In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, association leader Zibusiso Mabonisa said the anthology authors collected popular taboos from Matabeleland to document them for the purpose of shifting their existence from oral to written evidence.

“The authors made vast research on these taboos and the findings point that they are a reflection of our forefathers’ religion, day-to-day lifestyle as well as a nature conservation strategy,” he said.

“The book can be used in studies to do with heritage and indigenous knowledge systems.”

Mabonisa said arrangements were being made for the book to be available in bookshops.

He said authors of the anthology were himself, Pentecost Mate, Sibongile Mnkandla, Mzana Mthimkhulu, Monica Mujakachi, Priscah Ndlovu, Fanwell Ncube, Nomaswazi Nunu, Nomasomi Sigogo, Tsheza Sitsha and Naison Tfwala.

Mabonisa said the association’s Bulawayo chapter had approximately 40 authors.

“The association holds academic workshops where it invites stakeholders from universities who equip authors with research skills that are needed in academic writing.

“Again, the members of the association get to attend book fairs where they will showcase their academic books,” he said.

“The association’s purpose as derived from its constitution is creation of a forum for academic writing, promotion of high-quality academic and non-fiction books, as well as promoting the culture of reading and writing of academic and non-fiction books in Zimbabwe,” he said.

Mabonisa penned a novel titled Icala Labokhokho which was nominated for the outstanding Ndebele literary work at the recent Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards ceremony.
