A FRESH COVID-19 outbreak has hit St Paul’s Musami Mission in Murewa, Mashonaland East province after four learners and a teacher tested positive.

A massive screening and testing exercise is underway at the Roman Catholic-run school amid fears many could have been infected.

In a letter to parents dated November 17, the school authorities confirmed the outbreak.

“I regret to inform you that the school has been hit by the pandemic. So far one teacher and four students have tested positive and screening or testing by health officials is ongoing. You will be updated on developments from time to time as this is a developing event,” the letter read.

Mashonaland East provincial medical director Paul Matsvimbo confirmed the COVID-19 cases at the school.

“I confirm that there are COVID-19 cases at that school. We are however, yet to establish whether the numbers have increased or not. We are still conducting the screening and testing,” Matsvimbo said.

A number of learners and teachers have tested positive to COVID-19 since schools re-opened a few months ago.

Some of the schools that have been affected in the province include Wise Owl, Goromonzi High and Waddilove High School, among others.
