7 000 netted for drug-related offences

POLICE have arrested over 7 000 people for drug-related offences since January and seized an assortment of drugs totalling $38 million.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the State security organ had stepped up operations against drug peddling and other related crimes.

“The ZRP reports that, from January 2021 to date, police arrested 7 263 suspects for drugs related offences,” Nyathi said yesterday.

On Wednesday, police arrested Nomsa Sharon Ndebele (25) in Bulawayo for possession of 1,450kg of dagga following a tip off.

On Tuesday and Monday, Bulawayo police arrested Sithokozile Dube (33) and Arnold Kuzakwenhamo (37) for possession of 0,003 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 0,004 kilogrammes of cocaine respectively.

Nyathi said police also seized 1 143 plants of dagga, 6,04kg of cocaine, 1 331 x 100ml bottles of BronClear, 17 323kg of crystal methamphetine, 1 241,33kg of elphedrine, 41x100ml bottles of Histalix, various skin lightening creams and unregistered medicines, all valued at $38 206 058 since January.
