THE trial of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa, who is facing an assault charge, has been moved to October 18 to allow her to recuperate from an illness.
Prosecutor Michael Reza yesterday also successfully requested the postponement of another matter on Mubaiwa, where she is accused of attempting to kill Chiwenga.
Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje set November 1, 2021 as the possible trial date.
Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, however, told the court that even the October 18 trial should be subject to an improvement in her health condition.
“This court made an order to determine whether she is fit to stand trial, but that date is subject to her health condition and she is expected to go for examinations tomorrow (today) at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals,” Mtetwa said.
Reza said the docket for the attempted murder case was now ready, adding that the defence team would receive the document on October 8.
On the last court appearance, Mtetwa submitted that her client was seriously ill and could not be subjected to a trial because the medication she was taking could cause her to lose concentration.

Apart from the divorce and criminal cases, she has been fighting to get custody of her three children who have been in their father’s custody for over a year.
Mubaiwa is accused of attempting to murder Chiwenga when he was in hospital in South Africa.
She is also accused of forging signatures in a bid to formalise her marriage to Chiwenga.
The State also accusess her of money-laundering and assaulting her children’s minder soon after the fallout.
