SAKUNDA Holdings chief executive officer Kudakwashe Tagwirei has pledged more support to Bulawayo-based Premier Soccer League giants Highlanders.

Highlanders and Dynamos recently secured a US$5,3 million sponsorship deal from Sakunda, spanning three-years. Addressing Bosso’s board members on Sunday, Tagwirei pledged more support for the Bulawayo giants.

“It’s a great feeling that I have and I want to be part of Highlanders for a very long time. When I was here invited; I was told on Thursday or Friday and I said I was going to come. Thank you very much for allowing me to be part of you,” Tagwirei said.

He said he will start off by refurbishing the club offices at Number 50 Robert Mugabe Way in Bulawayo.

The offices were secured when current club president Ndumiso Gumede was chairman and the Sakunda boss said he was going to honour him by giving the offices a facelift.

“One of the things that I will start by looking at is the old man (Ndumiso) Gumede. He managed to get this nice office and as a gift to you; I was looking at this office and how dilapidated it is and as a gesture to you for what you did for Highlanders we are going to fix it so that when everybody comes here they say this is a home. Highlanders must be the face of the change agent in Bulawayo and that is what I believe in,” Tagwirei said.

He said there were a number of projects he wanted to do with Highlanders after he had been told that players that had gone for months without getting paid.

Sakunda is paying salaries for players, technical staff and office staff.

Coach Mandla Mpofu and captain Ariel Sibanda both received vehicles.

Sakunda will avail US$60 000 for players signing-on fees, US$200 000 for winning the league and US$150 000 as a bonus for qualifying for the Confederation of African Football Champions League.
