LEADING poultry producer, Irvine’s Zimbabwe yesterday introduced a new one-stop farm-fresh shop, which will cater for the growing demand for poultry products in the country.
Irvine’s commercial director Anele Zunga told NewsDay that the shop was segmented into retail and wholesale departments to cater for diverse customers’ needs.
The new farm-fresh walk-in shop is located at the Derbyshire Farm in Waterfalls, Harare, and is expected to serve customers from various backgrounds, ranging from wholesalers buying in bulk to individuals who want to purchase products for family consumption.
“Whether one wants fresh eggs, day-old chicks, sausages, or chickens for consumption, everything will be provided for under one roof,” he said.
“Customers can expect quality service, spacious parking space and more till payment points, all for their shopping convenience. The services were designed in response to customers’ calls to cater for both retail and wholesale customers.”
Irvine’s used to sell its products at a kiosk at its farm.
A surge in demand for its products resulted in the kiosk being overwhelmed.
“We made the shop big to avoid people queuing and crowding at the shop in line with COVID-19 requirements,” Zunga added.
During the COVID-19-induced lockdown, poultry farming became one of the major income-generating projects and a source of employment, especially for women and youths in the country.
Chicken meat also remains a more affordable source of protein compared to other meats in Zimbabwe.
Every year, Irvine’s trains 20 000 people in modern poultry production.
