Gasany slams GBV in new singles

BY TENDAI SAUTA RENOWNED guitar virtuoso Antony Gasany has slammed Gender Based Violence in his latest releases, Vana Zvipo and Zita Rakanaka which he says are appetisers from his forthcoming album Zvipo.

In an interview with NewsDay Life &Style, Gasany who is also a producer and artistic director said the songs have become favorites to many judging from responses on social media and radio.

He said Vana Chipo is being used as a sound track to a Zimbabwe television screened drama series Village Secrets, a Chibhamu Films production.

“The song Vana Zvipo addresses a societal ill around infertility in marriages resulting in gender-based violence, infidelity, divorce, emotional and verbal abuse while Zita Rakanaka talks about the importance of a good name or basically a good reputation,” he said.

“A good name is better than silver and Gold (Prov 22:1), the track calls for a retributive mindset over choices we make in life.”

Gasany said he managed to enhance and perfect his skills through working with different music bands led by celebrated and top gospel musicians.

“My guitar experience spans back from 1997 when I started my music career at Fishers of Men led by Pastor Charles Charamba. I then worked with The Puritans, led by Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Diva Mafunga’s band, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave’s band and Mahendere Brothers among other bands where I featured or participated as a session guitarist,” he said.

Gasany said setting up his own Gas Studios and recording a song that has been adopted as a film score has been of great achievement in his career.

“Gas Studios is now a force to reckon with because it now has a big chunk of the production on the market. We can also create and produce radio and television content that includes film scoring,” he said.

“On film scoring, we are currently part of two productions, The Patriotic Force Animation and Tozeza Baba movie which is being produced by Tungundu Media.”

Gasany said he will be releasing the video of the song Vana Chipo in due course, adding that it features the likes of Tellah Wallani, Tapiwa Nduna and Amos Mahendere.
