The suspect Watson Mutondo (23) has been charged with murder and was remanded to October 18.

BY DESMOND CHINGARANDE A-23-YEAR old man has been arraigned before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi for allegedly killing a kombi conductor after staging a fake police operation.

The suspect Watson Mutondo (23) has been charged with murder and was remanded to October 18.

Allegations were that on September 14 this year, the accused person and his accomplices Allan Tirivashoma Gwara, Abdulla Mlokoti and Trust Chidoma who are still at large, pretended to be police officers and hatched a plan to steal from fish vendors at White House in Harare.

The quartet then proceeded to White House clad in police uniforms. After spotting a commuter omnibus dropping off a passenger at White House upon arrival, they accused the driver (now deceased), Luke Zuze and the driver, George Chirwa of operating a non-Zupco commuter omnibus, and they took the commuter omnibus keys.

It is alleged that Zuze then snatched the keys from the bogus police officers and tried to run away. He was however caught by the accused persons and his accomplices, who then started assaulting him with baton sticks all over the body.

After discovering that the now deceased had been injured, the quartet ferried him to Harare Hospital where he was pronounced dead on September 17.
