AS preparations for the forthcoming premier arts awards, National Arts Merit Awards (Nama), gather momentum, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has set October 29 as the awards Golf Day to be held at Royal Harare Golf Club.
The event, preluding the awards ceremony set for February 27 next year, is a platform for artists from all backgrounds to discuss opportunities with business executives in an informal and engaging environment.
NACZ is working in partnership with event managers Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation (JCMC) in organising the 20th edition of the awards ceremony.
JCMC’s spokesperson Panashe Nyakawa in a statement, said artists across the board could contact NACZ or JCMC for registration details.
“The inaugural Nama Golf Day was highly subscribed with a field of 104 golfers. The floating trophy was lifted by Francis Muwani who walked away with a full solar kit for his home,” he said.
“The first edition of the Nama Golf Day featured artistes such as ExQ, Nutty O, Anita Jackson, Lee McHoney, Charlene Mangweni, radio personalities Samantha “MisRed” Musa and Violet “KVG” Gwara.”
Nyakawa said the awards ceremony would be held under the theme Zimbabwe and beyond #AmaLevels, adding that the theme would be carried throughout the build-up to the national event.

The artworks to be considered for selection at the awards should have been published in the past two years between December 1, 2019 and November 30, 2021.
“The youthful, #amalevels tag signifies that Nama has reached a new level in its stature, pedigree, and reach as the premier arts awards in Zimbabwe. The awards ceremony will be filled with special tributes to our arts ambassadors and their work,” he said.
“The 20th edition of Nama will be a historic occasion that celebrates artists who are raising the flag of Zimbabwe high across various artistic disciplines both locally and beyond our borders.”
Nyakawa said submissions for the awards, that opened on September 1, would close on November 30, 2021.
Stakeholders in the Cultural and Creative Industries including production houses, studios, stables, galleries, organisations, associations, groups, artists and monitors are expected to submit their works.
According to NACZ, only Zimbabwean citizens and those with Zimbabwean resident status are qualified to enter their work and entry forms are obtained from any of the NACZ offices, registered arts associations and organisations in Zimbabwe.
The Nama awards, established through an Act of Parliament in 1985 by NACZ, recognises and rewards excellence in creativity and talent within the creative sector.
