POLICE in Muzarabani, Mashonaland Central province, have launched a manhunt for a 31-year-old woman who set her neighbour’s hut on fire following a dispute over water.

Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo yesterday said Bedmore Museredza of Kamuramu village, Hoya, in Muzarabani under Chief Kasekete was on the run.

“I can confirm an attempted murder case in Muzarabani, where Museredza went to Locardia Chaniro (34)’s house with a burning log and set it on fire while Chaniro’s three minor children were inside. The elder son managed to rescue his sisters from the house.  Police are currently hunting for the suspect,” Dhliwayo said.

It is alleged that Chaniro and Museredza had a misunderstanding at the local river, resulting in the pair exchanging blows.  Museredza was overpowered and fled from the scene before going on to torch Chaniro’s house with the intention to kill her children.

Museredza was seen committing the crime by Chaniro’s eldest child, who informed her mother.  Chaniro then filed a police report.
