A Kuwadzana extension carjacker was nabbed while changing the original silver colour of a Toyota Quantum vehicle that he had stolen to black.

Kudakwashe Matonhodze (27) appeared before Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who remanded him in custody to August 25.

Matonhodze was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The complainant is Tawanda Chibanda of Kuwadzana extension.

The State alleges that on July 31 this year, at around 0215 hours, Chibanda parked his unregistered silver Toyota Quantum outside the gate.

He then started offloading some groceries from his motor vehicle going inside the house leaving the motor vehicle unlocked with keys on the ignition port.

On his return, he found five male unknown adults seated inside the motor vehicle.

Matonhodze and his accomplices, who are still at large tied Chibanda and drove him away. They dumped him, and stole the motor vehicle, groceries and mobile phones. Chibanda made a police report.

On August 1, the complainant received information that his stolen motor vehicle was seen at Matonhodze’s place of residence. He found him spray-painting it to change the original colour of the vehicle to black. The complainant, with the help of others, managed to effect a citizen arrest.

The total value stolen is US$15 000 and US$14 300-00 was recovered.
