RISING gospel singer and cleric with Value of Life Ministries, Loveness Kapfumo may be unknown to many gospel music lovers, but she is one up-and-coming artiste to watch on the gospel front.

The Mutare-bred and The Voices of Truth front-liner, told NewsDay Life & Style that growing up in spirit had helped her perfect her singing.

“I started recording songs from hymn books and listening to myself. This inspired me to write my songs. I was also inspired by veteran gospel singers like Baba namai Charamba,” she said.

“My composition inspiration comes from the Bible. The word is rich in solutions of life so as preachers, we try to give solutions and we know the best source is the bible. Sometimes people may not be able to apply Bible messages in life when they read, but when someone sings, they can easily understand the message.”

With only two albums under her sleeve, Kapfumo said she had discovered that it was not easy to make a breakthrough in the cut-throat music industry as it called for hard work.

“As an up-and-coming musician, my music journey so far has been difficult because I started in this COVID-19 environment. I am working hard to utilise online and social media platforms to connect with fans,” she said.

“So far, the journey has been teaching me that the music industry needs a lot, not only singing and recording, but managing it as a business. I am happy that my music has been accepted very well.”

Kapfumo released her debut five-track album titled Jesu Akandibata in 2020 and her latest six-track album, Wandakatenda Maari recorded at Kunashe Studios in Mutare.

The album Jesu Akandibata has songs such as Anorarama Jesu, title track Jesu Akandibata (with an accompanying video), Nyamatsatse Inopenya, Scars in Your Hands and Jesu Akandibata instrumental.

After the release of the album, Kapfumo dropped two singles Zvapera and Rutendo Rwangu respectively.

She is riding high on Wandakatenda Maari with her latest album that is dominating local airwaves.

Songs on the album are title tracks: Wandakatenda Maari, Hazvirambi Zvakadaro, My Life is In Your Hands, Mweya Mutsvene, Mwari Pakutanga and Tichamuona Jesu.

She has also released a single titled Ndimi Baba.

Kapfumo said she cherish music by other musicians such as Blessing Shumba, Dorcas Moyo, Agatha Murudzwa, Janet Manyowa among others, adding that she hoped to have a collaboration with them one day.
