RISING comedian Theophilus “Theo” Gabriel Chigumira has won a dance-off and lip-sync challenge hosted by gospel artiste Mudiwa Hood.

The competition, which ran from April 3 and ended on May 1 on social media, is part of Mudiwa Hood’s promotion for his single The Most High God.

When he publicised the competition, Mudiwa Hood told fans on social media that he was offering $US1500 to contestants that could make one minute 30 second videos lip-singing or dancing to his new song.

Mudiwa Hood took to instagram to announce the winners of the competition; “I am glad to announce that after putting US$1500US up for grabs through two challenges the Lipsync and dancing battle, we now have winners according to views on YouTube we will present their prizes on Wednesday June 9 2021. The winners who had the highest number of views are Astra “Mai Kirifodhi” and Mishael live congratulations”.

Theo’s lip-sync video “Astra Mai Kirifodhi” won top spot with over 41 000 views on YouTube in a tightly contested competition.

The challenge video features Theo in different creative characters and lip-singing to Mudiwa Hood’s song fusing the act with humour, drama and witty stunts.

Theo told NewsDay Life & Style that he was excited to be part of the winners of the lip-sync challenge.

“I feel great and awesome because I worked hard for the lip-sync challenge. I tried to create something that is different and I was surprised that people liked it,” he said.

“The lip-sing challenge was an opportunity for the public to appreciate local talent. We hope to get opportunities such as this to rise as comedians. I have been doing comedy on social media for a while now and we might not have the resources to fund ourselves sometimes, but Zimbabwean comedians are talented and they need to be recognised.”
