POLICE in Mudzi, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for a jilted 42-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death after he had seen her in the company of her boyfriend.

Garikayi Munetsi, of Madziyanhiyo village under Chief Nyamukoho, is on the run after he fatally stabbed Alice Kayingwe, after allegedly finding her in the company of her boyfriend, Tinashe Shoko (27).

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident.

“We are urging those who might know the whereabouts of the suspect to report to any nearest station,” he said.

It is reported that, on June 21, at around 9pm, the deceased left Suswe Business Centre, where she was drinking beer in the company of Shoko.

Upon crossing Nyakasanga River in Mutonhora village, Munetsi approached from behind and attacked Shoko with stones before the latter fled from the scene.

Munetsi, armed with a knife, then turned on Kayingwe, and stabbed her several times.

Munetsi’s brother Trust (31), who was also using the same path, heard the deceased crying for help and rushed to the scene, where he saw the suspect stabbing the deceased.

Trust reportedly tried to intervene, but was also threatened with death before rushing to the village to seek help.

He informed the deceased’s cousin Tongai Kativhu (38) about the attack and returned to the scene only to find Kayingwe lying in a ditch bleeding profusely.

She died around midnight before getting to the hospital.

A report was made at Nyamapanda Police Station, who attended the scene and ferried the deceased’s body to Murewa Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
