FEMALE rapper Debra “D-blok Keislim” Muzarurwi says musicians should be sociable to enable them to collaborate with fellow artistes beyond the boundaries.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style D-blok Keislim says collaborations help artistes to gain exposure while also expanding their fan base.

“Piracy has been a major problem faced in Zimbabwe and collaborations might be one of the solutions to such challenges. Musicians from other countries are governed by strict policies against piracy which benefits artistes who have been hit hard by it,” she said.

“When you work with others in music you will realise a world outside of your own and that is what art is about. Teamwork is the key to doors you did not even know existed. I believe I have laid the foundation to the successes that I am enjoying today.”

D-blok Keislim who frontlines Bloknation band said her music connects different cultures, adding that she has had a smooth sailing in working with artistes beyond the borders.

“I have been working with DJ Geespot from Botswana on a song called Nobody knows, Back to Basics with  Vado 2.0 from Germany and other songs yet to be titled with Brown Bricky from Zambia and  South African based rapper Rover,” she said.

“I feel we have the same drive and energy that creates an amazing synergy. We can bounce ideas off of each other which has been a great experience.”

She said the working environment in the showbiz industry depends on how one preserves things.

“The music industry is what you make of it. It can be extremely hostile at times or exquisitely striking and magical. It depends on the team of people around you and the work ethic one has,” she said.

“With time I am hoping to have D-blok Keislim become a larger brand as I pursue this journey in music. So far my team and I have shot a couple of videos for upcoming music. I have a whole new side of me that I cannot wait to share with everyone. We have a little package for the people.”

The energetic and creative rapper’s discography includes an exclusive limited Extended Play called Radio Silence (2006), Turn to Dust (2008), Zuva Rimwe (2019), Sango, Wrong Lover (2019), Riser and Kwete in 2020.
