MATOBO Youth Development Initiative (MYDI) has launched the Awesome Dad campaign as part of the commemorations of Father’s Day, held on the third Sunday of June, in appreciation of young dads between the ages of 18 and 35 who are doing well as fathers.

Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognise the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of children.

This day celebrates fatherhood and male parenting. Although it is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, many countries, among them Zimbabwe, observe the day on the third Sunday in June.

MYDI director Descent Dube over the weekend challenged residents to appreciate young fathers who are doing a good job in fatherhood by sharing their pictures online and commenting why they are the best dads.

“Let’s appreciate young dads who are winging and killing it in the fatherhood business. If you know any young dad share with MYDI this Father’s Day their picture in action and also say why you think he is the best dad you know,” he said.

Dube said the best portrayed dad is going to win an “Awesome Dad” branded special gift as an appreciation for their fatherhood.

“The campaign Awesome Dad came about to appreciate the young dads doing well because not many are taking care of their responsibilities and for those who are it is heads up to them, we are not neglecting the older dads but we appreciate them as well. However, this campaign is an appreciation to the young dads specifically,” he said.
